WMMS PTA Weekly Announcements – September 19th, 2016
Our Fundraiser is underway now. This is the primary revenue source to support all PTA programs at WMMS. From Cultural Arts to curriculum support – it’s up to us to provide access to innovative experiences and relevant technology for our kids. How can you help? Two options:
https://cherrydale.com/go_shopping.php Fall Frenzy! September 30th from 5:30p – 7:30p! Always a great time – food, fun and school family! We need volunteers for a wide variety of roles – please click here to help out! http://www.signupgenius.com/go/4090445abae2c7-wmms7 Dear NCPTA Member:
The North Carolina General Assembly’s Program Evaluation Division (PED) has been directed to examine how limitations on school calendar flexibility have affected school districts, school operations, and students during the past 10 years. Current state law (G.S. § 115C-84.2(d)) requires that the opening day of school for students may not be earlier than the Monday closest to August 26th and closing day of school for students may not be later than the Friday closest to June 11th. PED has partnered with the North Carolina Parent Teacher Association (NCPTA) to send you this voluntary 10-minute survey that asks opinion questions about how the school calendar for school districts affects families. Click on the link to complete the survey: NC PTA School Calendar Survey Please complete this survey no later than 5:00pm on Sunday, September 25, 2016. Your individual responses to this survey will be anonymous and cannot be linked to your email address. The NCPTA has sent you this email on our behalf; PED does not have access to your email address. If you have any questions about the survey, please contact Carol Shaw at [email protected] or 919-301-1216. Thank you for your participation! We look forward to receiving your completed survey. The Poe Center’s Drugs Uncovered: What parents need to know! is coming to West Millbrook Middle School on Wednesday, October 12th, 2016 from 7:00-9:00 pm! The Poe Center for Health Education and West Millbrook Middle School are challenging you – we want to see if you can identify any of the 70 references to drugs and alcohol hidden in a “life like” teenager’s bedroom. The bedroom is part of the Poe Center’s interactive program, Drugs Uncovered: What parents need to know! Drugs Uncovered will inform you of: current drug trends, teen culture, signs of substance use and abuse and much, much more. It will also give you the tools you need to effectively talk with your teens about drugs and alcohol. This program is FREE for parents and adults. So please join us at West Millbrook Middle School on Wednesday, October 12th, 2016 from 7:00-9:00 pm. To pre-register for this program please contact Jodi Bulmer at (919) 337-2275 OR [email protected].. There is also a registration link here: http://www.signupgenius.com/go/70a0f4faaaa2ea75-drugs20
Hope your kids are having a great start to this new school year. We have so many programs in the works and would love to have you all involved to help support these great programs for our students!
There is an updated sign up genius for all PTA events that are on the schedule. Please take a look and see where you can help out. WMMS Volunteer Sign Up Sheet Our first newsletter of the year is available here! Packed with helpful information, our goal is to publish these every 6 weeks or so. If you have information to share please contact Jodi Bulmer or Amy Faust. We also have an immediate need for a chair to coordinate our Reflections program. Reflections encourages students to express themselves through the arts by submitting their own original work in dance, film, photography, literature, music comp, and visual arts. This is a program that is coordinated through Wake County PTA, so the guidelines are all set, it is really about having a local school representative to coordinate the communications and make sure that the submissions are submitted to Wake County by the deadlines. It is a great opportunity to have a program that supports the arts. We have not participated in the past and we would like to encourage this program for WMMS and give our children this opportunity. But we won't be able to unless we have some parent volunteers that will be willing to help us put on this program. If you have any questions, please let me know. I hope to see all of you at open house on Thursday evening! Holly What a great first week back at WMMS!
Please help us out in carpool by.... staying as close as possible to that curb for those making the right turn into WMMS. The further out in that lane you are, the harder it is for those trying to exit to see past you. It slows down everyone! Open House is next Thursday, September 15th at 6pm. This is a great opportunity to walk your student schedules, meet teachers, join PTA, complete the online volunteer screening that must be done every year and find out more about our Fall Fundraiser for PTA. Don't miss it! Have you re-linked your Kroger/Lowes/Food lion/Harris Teeter cards? Please do it for our students! Thinking about the NC State Fair yet??!! Please order your fair tickets through this year’s WCPSS partnership program and earn $2 per adult / $1 per child for West Millbrook Middle School. This is a great, no fuss way to help support our school and ANYONE can use this link to buy their tickets!! Follow the link below to purchase your tickets and when prompted enter WMMS school code (608). http://www.etix.com/ticket/p/3629501?cobrand=ncstatefair16-wakecounty |
